The Gas Connection Sequence
Gas fireplace installation follows a specific, safety-critical sequence: confirm the gas line is shut off and tagged, make the physical connection using appropriate fittings and thread sealant rated for gas service, pressure-test the connection (introduced in Lesson 3), then and only then restore gas supply and proceed to ignition testing.
Manifold Pressure Confirmation
After connection, manifold pressure gets measured with a manometer and compared against the manufacturer’s specified range (introduced from a service diagnostic perspective elsewhere in this academy) — confirming correct pressure at installation, not assuming it based on the gas line “seeming fine,” catches supply issues before the customer ever experiences a performance problem.
Pilot and Ignition System Verification
A full ignition cycle test, not just “does the pilot light,” confirms the specific ignition system (millivolt, electronic) is functioning correctly end to end, including that safety shutoffs and any connected accessories (wall thermostat, remote) work as intended before you leave the job.
Final Leak Test
A complete leak test of all connections made during installation, using an approved detection method, happens after the system is fully assembled and pressurized — this is a distinct, final confirmation step, not assumed to be already covered by the earlier pressure test alone.
