Many factory-built units specify a required hearth pad material, thickness, and dimension (extending a specified distance in front of and to the sides of the unit) — using a decorative hearth pad that doesn’t meet the actual specified fire rating and dimension, because it “looks similar” to what’s required, is a real compliance and safety gap.

Floor Protection for Freestanding Units

A freestanding stove requires floor protection extending the manufacturer-specified distance in all directions from the unit, sized to the unit’s actual footprint and clearance needs, not a generic “big enough” assumption.

Confirming Compliance Before Finish Flooring
