Framing and Rough-In Tools
Standard framing tools (level, square, stud finder, circular saw) plus a few installation-specific items: a laser level for precise venting alignment over longer runs, and tin snips or a venting-pipe cutter sized correctly for the specific venting material (cutting Class A pipe or B-vent with the wrong tool damages the factory seam).
Gas Connection Tools
A manometer (introduced from a service perspective elsewhere in this academy) is equally essential at installation — every gas connection gets pressure-tested before the job is considered complete, not just visually checked. Pipe thread sealant rated for gas service, and a proper gas leak detection solution or electronic detector, are standard kit, not optional extras.
Venting Assembly Tools
Class A and B-vent pipe use twist-lock or specific mechanical joint systems (manufacturer-specific) rather than generic fasteners — using the correct assembly method, confirmed fully locked/seated at every joint, is a core installation skill, since an improperly seated joint is a real safety issue that may not be visually obvious once installed.
Measuring and Layout Tools
A tape measure alone is insufficient for confirming true clearances in three dimensions around a firebox — a combination square and, for larger jobs, a laser measure help confirm clearances are correct at multiple points, not just the most convenient one to check.
