Field Scenario

Under schedule pressure, a GC asks whether finish flooring and drywall work around the fireplace area can begin before your gas connection and leak testing (Lesson 17) is fully complete and confirmed, to keep other trades moving in parallel.

What You Actually Do

You explain why gas connection and leak testing needs to be confirmed complete before that area is closed in by finish work — if a connection issue is found after drywall covers the area, correcting it becomes dramatically more disruptive and costly than catching it while the area is still open.

Why This Matters

Schedule pressure to parallelize trades is a completely normal, legitimate business concern, but it can’t override the actual dependency between rough-in verification and closing in the work — some sequence steps genuinely must happen in order, regardless of scheduling preference.

What a Strong Response Includes

• Explaining the real dependency (verification before enclosure), not just insisting on a rule.
• Acknowledging the legitimate scheduling concern while holding the necessary sequence.
• Proposing what can safely proceed in parallel versus what genuinely cannot.
