Pellet Venting Installation
Pellet appliances typically use smaller-diameter PL venting (introduced from a sales perspective elsewhere in this academy) rather than the larger Class A or B-vent systems used by wood or gas units — a genuinely different installation process, with its own manufacturer-specific joint and sealing requirements that shouldn’t be assumed similar to larger venting systems.
Electrical Circuit Requirements
Given pellet appliances’ mechanical/electrical components (auger, blowers, igniter, introduced from a service diagnostic perspective elsewhere in this academy), confirming an adequate, appropriately located electrical circuit is part of installation rough-in, similar in principle to the electric fireplace circuit confirmation in Lesson 16 but for a different total load.
Hopper Access and Clearance
Installation placement needs to account for realistic hopper-filling access (introduced from a sales perspective elsewhere in this academy) — a technically compliant clearance placement that makes routine pellet refilling awkward or difficult creates an ongoing usability problem for the customer, worth considering even though it’s not strictly a code requirement.
Commissioning a Pellet Unit
Initial commissioning (Lesson 22) for a pellet unit includes confirming the auger feed rate and burn settings are correctly configured for the specific pellet fuel type available to the customer, not just confirming the unit powers on and ignites.
